Making glass art & applying for gigs.

Making glass art & applying for gigs.

Studio table. A little peek into my studio life… Table with glass parts – in process – as well as inspiration from Brian Rutenberg’s GORGEOUS new paintings I experienced at Jerald Melberg Gallery. (I’m really painting with glass.) Idea for free standing piece. Some of what I’m creating are small prototypes to pitch ideas… or testing glass. Here, I wanted free-standing and depth captured by casting thick glass. Detail. Nice detail of the previous cast piece… Some details of my glass are juicy. (I love these images with screens’ light making it pop!) See my Facebook page “photos” feed for more glass. (Honestly, if you want to see my current work, Facebook is still best way:) Adrift, table top cast glass composite. Final composite called “Adrift” from the earlier keystone casting & some parts. (Appears to be smaller in size than the others. Is actually larger;) Share...

What I’ve been up to…

What I’ve been up to…

The truth is I’ve been spending a lot of time organizing, gleaning, and creating – as close to my dream life as I can get. A lot of this time has been spent learning about kiln-glass, making lots of prototypes, exploring what excites me about the materials: the movement, depth and intensity. I’ve also been experimenting with my glass and light and movement… And, collaborating with other artists. This is probably one of the best times in my life as an artist! Check out some of these little snippets – videos – of what I’ve been doing.… I would love to hear your thoughts if you want to share. (One is to give you an idea of how I’m getting these. Two shows the incredible dimension of reflection and three is a fun close up. Please forgive terrible videography… at the moment, I’m camera woman and glass/light mover;-) Share...

First Corporate Glass Commission – 2015

First Corporate Glass Commission – 2015

Thanks to Sozo Gallery, I have recently installed my first corporate glass commission at PricewaterhouseCoopers‘ Hearst Tower location. Commissions are a longer process, both exciting and challenging. They had a section of custom made cabinets – their entire office was beautifully renovated not that long ago – that were screaming for something custom. (The PwC collection of local artists is stunning. Really, a who’s who of the art world… and I am thrilled to be a part.) Other than learning the technical science behind warm glass, is the huge problem of trying to capture my work on film! I knew for this job I needed to hire out. Mitchell Kearney was on the very short list. (I can get decent enough images of my glass in process – before it is slumped or draped in final form.) Check out some in-process pics HERE on my facebook page… that I update a LOT more often than my website!!     ALL PricewaterhouseCoopers’ images by Mitchell Kearney Photography.   Share...
