Blue Meditation | Private Commission

Full circle moment…

In summer of 2021, Carmella Jarvi was commissioned to do a glass piece for couple living on Lake Norman.

This is the same body of water (outside of Charlotte, NC) that the artist literally grew up in/around.

Her grandparents’ modest lakefront home — that from her birth, she spent endless hours swimming and playing — was the seed for Jarvi’s love of water.

One of Jarvi’s supporters had been looking to acquire a wall-mounted glass piece. But, it never quite worked out to be “the” piece. Finally, the Lake Norman residents commissioned the artist to create a water inspired glass piece for their newly renovated family room looking directly out onto the lake.

After a site visit, and looking at existing water glass pieces, it was agreed the artist would combine her softer, subtle water glass rounds with some bolder ones. This was because of the couple’s extensive travels, and their eclectic art collection.

Once the basic number and price were agreed upon, they left the specifics up to the artist. However, as she always does, Jarvi provided studio pics along the way to share the process. After Blue Meditation was installed, the wife confessed she was a little nervous about how it was going to look from what she had seen.

However, once it is was on the wall, they both loved the piece and are thrilled with how this large focal point work of glass art pulled the space together.

This is one of Carmella Jarvi’s favorite things regarding her glass (and other water inspired) commissions… she loves to transform spaces with her completely unique creations. These bespoke installations always tie in with the existing design/color palette, while giving a new energy that is both classic and contemporary in nature.

It is good to have a spot in mind, measurements, color palette, images of the artist’s work you love, etc. before the first phone call or visit.)

One of the fascinating things about Jarvi’s wall-mounted glass installations is their look changes as the light does. Here, you can see the commission in the family room downstairs… it faces the lake, and west, which means dramatic variety of different appearances.
